White Flames/ Snowy White/ That Certain Thing

In 1982, after leaving Thin Lizzy, Snowy decided he would do his own thing. He got together with some guys that he'd known for a long time - Kuma Harada: Bass. Richard Bailey: Drums. Godfrey Wang: keyboards. |

"I had some ideas and I wanted musicians who could interpret them their own way and add something" The result was Snowy's first solo album White Flames which produced the single Bird of Paradise. This was a surprise hit for everybody, not least Snowy. But it was not all good news. "I was starting to be thought of as a ballad singer who happens to play a bit of guitar" says Snowy, and this was not his idea of the direction in which he should be going. "There was a lot of pressure on me to come up with another hit", Snowy remembers. "But I wasn't really a singles' artiste". The second album was called simply 'Snowy White' (or 'Land of Freedom' in Europe) but no chart success resulted from the subsequent singles released Snowy recorded a live performance video 'Snowy White -Live from London' which was shot at Camden Palace, London. Snowy signed with another label for the release of 'That Certain Thing'. "Unfortunately the record company wanted me to sign my publishing to them as well, and I wouldn't do that. By the time the album came out I had already left the label!" says Snowy.
